Stevenson PACT is a K-5 parent participation school offering
progressive education and a developmental curriculum.
The school name PACT stands for Parent, Child, and Teacher. All three collaborate at Stevenson.
Teachers develop a progressive education curriculum that meets district and state requirements.
Parents volunteer 2 hours a week in the classroom helping to facilitate this curriculum through hands-on experimentation, small group learning, field trips and research and guided discovery.
Parents are invited to initiate and implement enrichment activities that support the core curriculum. Parents have organized enrichment activities such as Arts Focus, ImPACT, cooking, gardening, and more.
Stevenson PACT...
... is a K-5 public choice school in MVWSD
... typically has a lottery and waitlist
... has nearly 500 students, making it the largest school in MVWSD
... expects 2 hours a week in classroom volunteering from all parents
... has parent-run enrichment programs like Arts Focus, ImPACT, Cooking, Gardening, and more
... uses parent drivers in addition to busses for OLEs (field trips)
Parents participate in the classroom, actively supporting the school and teachers. Seeing their child’s class in action, parents and guardians are exposed to the teacher’s education style and can better understand how the curriculum is being implemented.
This enhanced understanding allows parents and guardians to more easily support their child's educational journey socially, emotionally, and academically. Research shows that students who see their parents and guardians involved in their education are more successful and more likely to feel a sense of belonging. Our teachers feel a strong connection and close relationship with their students’ families.
Through experiential learning and innovative teaching, we emphasize growth of the whole child – intellectually, socially, physically, and creatively. Within our diverse and caring community, we provide an environment that challenges each child to become:
A lifelong learner
An independent thinker
A respectful individual
A responsible global citizen
As a choice program, Stevenson PACT is different from typical neighborhood schools in the Mountain View Whisman School District. These differences work great for some families, but they're not for everyone.
The biggest difference is that Stevenson PACT expects parents to volunteer 2 hours a week, typically in the classroom. Parent volunteering is essential for the school to run smoothly, and it's also an opportunity for parents to build a deeper connection with their child. By volunteering in the classroom, parents not only improve educational outcomes, they also connect with their own children as well as the entire school community. Similarly, children gain confidence from interacting with adults who are engaged in their education. The intent of the volunteering ask is to benefit everyone involved: parents, children, and teachers.
Before you apply, take time to see if Stevenson PACT is the right fit for you. Whether you choose to apply to Stevenson PACT, or decide that your neighborhood school is a better fit for your family, your student will receive excellent education from the world class teachers in the district.
